Visit the mysterious underground world in Istria!

When is Istria go and visit a cave, it is a mysterious underworld of nature which has been developing for thousand of years, far away from the light of the day and the human eye. The cave of Baredine has beautiful stalagmites and stalactites, sculptures created through time by the patient work of water. Such shapes have been created, some of which are exceptional, such as the 10 meter long and high curtains, a very realistic sculpture of Our Lady, the body of a milkmaid called Milka, the leaning tower of Pisa and snowman the torch-bearer – who has become the trade mark of the cave. The cave is 132 m deep and the temperature is constant at 14C, so take a warm jacket or vest when dressed in summer clothes.

In one of the atrium’s you will pass a crater that is 4m wide and 66 m deep which goes down to the underground lakes, there are many halls, galleries of abstract and realistic sculptures. All in all it will take about 40 minutes to walk around accompanied by a guide and custodian. In this underground world there are even unique animals that can only live in this environment.

At the entrance of the cave is a small museum that shows pottery of prehistoric man, there is furthermore a terrace with some food to offer, a collection of old agricultural machinery, a picnic area and a playground for children.

April and October 10.00 – 15.30
May, June and September 10.00 – 16.30
July and August 10.00 – 17.30

November – March entries at 11.00 12.00 13.00 and 14.00
In January and February visits are possible with minimum one day prior announcement
