The Velebit is Croatia’s largest mountain range with a length of 150 kilometres that runs along the Adriatic coast. The Velebit region has been protected as a nature park, together with two national parks and a series of smaller specially protected areas. This magnificent mountain range has two faces, a bare rocky slope on the coastal side, and vast forests on the continental side. The are is rich in natural phenomena like unusual rock formations, wild canyons, deep pits and caves and has a lot of plant and animal wild life.

This is a rocky mountain range along the Dalmatian coast offers magnificent wild nature, with walking trails, mountain bike and mountain climb routes. In the months march to November you can kayak in the river, in the summer months it depends on the water level.

The Velebit Hiking trail is a 9-day, 100km tracking route through this wonderful mountain area, marked with the well known red-white mountaineer sign, here is the link to the full English description of the trail as mentioned on the website of the Croatian Mountaineering Association (Hrvatski Planinarski Savez, HPS).

2) Cerovačke špilje, 4 km from Gračac
by car: from highway take the exit Sveti Rok, from here it is 25km to Gračac. Then follow te road to Knin follow the signs to Cerovačke špilje. Here are about 40 parking spaces.

3) Uvala Zavratnica near the place Jablanac
from the highway take the exit Žuta Lokva, from here it is 60km to Jablanac where you can take a walking trail to the cove along the sea-side
