Strossmayerova galerija starih majstora

This Gallery and the neo-Renaissance palace in which it is housed were opened in 1884. The Museum was founded by Bishop Josip Juraj Strossmayer who donated his art collection to the Croatian people in 1868.

The collection holds nowadays about 4.000 paintings, sculptures, drawings and other objects from the Gothic period to modern art. There are representations of Italian, French and Spanish masters, artists of Northern Europe and Croatian artists.

Furthermore, the Museum has received multiple gifts, like – the Auder Collection, the Csikos Collection, the Svecnjak Collection, the Sebalj Collection, the Sulentic Collection and the Uzorinac Collection. It has a large library with about 15.000 titles.

The permanent exhibition has about 400 items, which reviews European art from the end of the 14th century to the beginning of the 20th century.
