The Dubovac Castle was strategically build on a hill so it overlooks the city of Karlovac and the surrounding area. The square tower was built somewhere in the 13th century. In the 15th century the castle was rebuilt in renaissance style. The castle had several different owners – from the east Croatian Slavonian noble family Sudar to the famous Croatian counts and dukes of the Frankopan and Zrinski lineage. In the years 1671 – 1809 the castle was owned by the military generals of Karlovac. In 1837, a new owner, Count Laval Nugent, rebuilt the castle in the style of romanticism. Dubovac was once again renovated in 1952 in the style that was found on graphics from the end of the 18th century.
Recently, the castle has been used as a hotel, and the damage done to the interior to accommodate rooms, is now being repaired. The castle now has a museum and exhibits a large model of the surrounding beautiful natural countryside.
