Makarska is a town located about 60km south of Split in a bay on the Adriatic coast with views to the Biokovo mountains. The town has a beautiful promenade with palm trees where cafes, bars and boutiques overlook the harbour. The old town centre is like most towns along the Croatian coast, historic, pleasant with narrow, stone-paved streets.
The Makarska Riviera stretches for about 60 km from Brela to Gradac with Makarska in its centre, and is characterized by a rocky coast with sometimes hidden but beautiful pebble beaches.
Beaches of the Makarska Riviera
Beaches between the village Drasnice to the neighbouring village Igrane. There are many wonderful small bays, many beaches offer thick pine wood and natural shade, and some beaches in this area can only be reached by the boat. There are not many facilities here, so take along your own necessities.
Beach Brela Vruja stretches over two kilometres and hides many larger and smaller beaches, one even more beautiful than the other. There is hardly any natural shade and there are no beach facilities so have very little or no natural shade, so take along your own necessities.
Nugal beach is located about 2 km south of Makarska is one of the most picturesque beaches on the Makarska Riviera. You can only reach this beach on foot (small seaside promenade) or by boat, it is a popular beach for nudists as it is very secluded. You have to wear good shoes to walk here and bring all you need for a day on a beach, as there are no facilities.
Promajna is a small village located between Baska voda and Makarska. Besides the abandoned facility that was used to treat children with asthma, there are many small beaches which are easy to reach as there is a parking area nearby. A beach popular with nudists, there are cabins, showers and a restaurant.
Zivogosce Velika duba, located between Makarska and Gradac is a beautiful bay between the villages Zivogosce Mala Duba and Zivogosce Blato. It is a pebble beach and has natural shade provided by a pine forest, sometimes used by nudists, there are no facilities so bring your own necessities for a day on the beach. There are only ten parking places on the road near the beach, otherwise it’s about a 1 km walk from the village.
