Founded in 1946, The City Museum of Split, is located in the Palace of Diocletian. This is a complex of medieval buildings with at it’s centre the Gothic Palace of the Papalic family.
The building where the Museum is located has a courtyard with beautifully decorated portal and loggia, and the hall on the first floor has old windows and a preserved wooden ceiling.

The permanent exhibition of the Museum shows the time in the history of the city Split, when it was an autonomous city commune – from the 12th to 14th century. Among the displayed items are the city statute and seal, coins and sculptures from the belfry of the Cathedral. In the period from 15th-16th century the city was under Venetian rule of which some items can be seen. There is a separate part where armoury is shown from the 15th – 18th century, which were used to defend the city Split.

The museum of Split has organised a Workshop called – ‘In search of the Emperor Diocletian’s treasure with Indiana Jones and Lara Croft’. You can participate in the workshop by reservation, call phone number 00 385 (0)21 360 171. Groups of 15 participants will go from the reception desk of the Substructures of Diocletian’s Palace, at 14.00 – 16.00 – 18.00 and 20.00 o’clock. The price for the workshop is 80 Kuna (~ 10-11 euro) and includes participation in the workshop and sharing the found treasure.

You can visit the medieval military patrol path on the northern wall of the Diocletian’s Palace. This military patrol path was built in the 15th century to defend the city when it grew outside and around the palace. The view from the wall will make an unforgettable impression on you!

For individuals and groups (maximum 10 people) based on the terms and the timetable on the City Museum’s website, and by appointment on telephone number 0031 (0) 21 360 171, due to the limited number of visitors in the group (max. 10 persons ), every hour starting from the reception of the City Museum, street Papalićeva 1, Split.
