Cycling along the coast of Croatia

Cycling trails along the coast of Croatia divided by region from north to south.

Cycling along the coast

The Istrian peninsula: This northernmost peninsula offers plentiful cycling trails from easy, to moderate and difficult. There is plenty of information about cycling trails, with mention of the length, degree of difficulty and changes in height here.

Kvarner: 19 bicycle trails from Opatija to Gorski Kotar, and a general website with more bicycle trail information in the Kvarner region. In the Rijeka area there are many cycling routes described in this brochure.

North-Dalmatia the area around Zadar: Zadar is a historic Roman town located on the coast and offers many opportunities and activities for tourists, one of them is cycling along one of the 26 trails. A part of these trails are located on surrounding islands, these islands can be visited by ferry. For more cycling routes around Zadar you can download the  ‘Zadar Bike Magic Mobile App‘ both for Android and IOS.

Central Dalmatia the area around Split: Split is a historic city with UNESCO world heritage sites, many hotels, an international airport and plenty of beaches. The Split – Dalmatia county tourist board has developed a website with information about cycling trails in this area, there are trails on the mainland and on the islands Brac and Hvar. Near the tourist town Vodice you find some cycling trails through the mountains near Tribunj.

South-Dalmatia surroundings of Dubrovnik: Due to the rough geology and relatively small area of land between the sea and high mountain ridge of the Dinaric alps not many cycling trails are available in this region. However, around the idyllic located fishing village of Cavtat on the coast about 15km south of Dubrovnik three beautifully panoramic cycling trails are mapped. In the summer months it can be very warm at the heat of the day, so it is advisable to go cycling in the early morning or in the evening.
