Croatian Natural History Museum, Zagreb

Hrvatski Prirodoslovni Muzej

This museum was started in 1986 by the fusion of the Mineral and Petrographic, the Geological and Palaeontological and the Croatian National Zoological Museums. The museums holds about 1.500.000 specimens organized into different collections.

The collection of Rocks and Minerals keeps specimens from all over the world
The Geological and Palaeontological collection shows the evolution of the plant and animal world, with an emphasis on the Krapina pre-historic man collection – this is the most important Neanderthal collection in the world. In the town Krapina north-east of Zagreb you can visit the caves of pre-historic man and the Krapina museum.
The Zoological collections show native species in Croatia and also exotic species.
The Botanical collection with herbarium has been recently started.
The Natural history library has about 30.000 titles.
