Croatia is the country with many picturesque smaller and larger islands in the clear blue Adriatic sea. Without a modern and efficient ferry boat system it would be impossible to maintain and
guarantee good connections between the islands and the mainland and between the different islands themselves.
The government company Jadrolinija manages many ferry crossings between the mainland and inhabited islands year-round. Between islands there is not always a ferry service. The ferries run the whole year and in the summer season there are some extra ferry routes and more ferries per trip. During summer season the ferries are often very full, and for some trips you can reserve a ticket online. Take care to be on time with your car, at least half an hour and in the summer 1,5 hour before departure time. Park your car in the waiting line of cars and then go to pick up your ticket. Besides Jadrolinija other ferry companies offer trips to islands not covered by Jadrolinija. On the regular ferries cars and even buses go on board, on a catamaran this is not possible.
