Immerse yourself in the middle ages in Koprivnica!

Renesansni festival Koprivnica

Each year the old town defence works in the centre of the northern city Koprivnica is turned into a medieval spectacle. You enter through the gates into an ancient world with knights, bread bakes in wood ovens, food grilled on open fires, sword fights, people dressed in medieval tunics, animals, local products, and no plastics!
This three day festival transforms the town into a place from another era, you smell the food, hear the music and you can stroll around the market stalls with local products, like honey, nettle tea and this year there was even nettle perfume! As ‘koprive’ means nettle in Croatian, and the town Koprivnica is known for it’s historic connection to nettles, as these weeds grow abundantly in this area, the nettle is the local mascot!

There were demonstrations with eagles, medieval rugby, a leper colony, the king and queen wandered around town, ancient children games and theatre performances, animals like horses, pigs, and ducks could be seen, music, and a world Guinness record of the most people sprayed with nettle perfume!
