A visit in autumn rewards the visitor with beautiful autumn coloured leaves contrasting with the green blue colours of the water.
This variety in landscape and climate is root for the great variety in flora and fauna, some protected areas even inhabit bears, lynx and wolves. Croatia is relatively thinly populated making especially the mountainous areas still peaceful and full with wild nature. The numerous national and nature parks are all magnificent and worth a visit, from the southern warm Mediterranean island of Mljet, to the marshes of Kopacki rit in the east and the primeval forests of Risnjak national park. Outside the protected nature reserves, Croatia has a lot of natural beauty to show for, dreamy hills, oak and beech forests, river-landscapes and of course the beautiful coast with numerous islands, bays and beaches.
